It’s Things I Love Thursday! Yes, we are keeping with the meme. Here are some new things that I absolutely love this week:
The Mortal Instruments City of Bones extended clip
I have no idea where to even start with this clip. I’ve been a fan of these books for what feels like forever (since 2008, I think) and I couldn’t be more excited to see this movie on August 21st. Getting an early extended clip is a real treat for fans and I’m so glad I found this online.
Everything in the clip is pretty much amazing—from Lena Headey’s fight scene, to the action sequence and the cuts, to Lily Collins’s shock over just about everything, to the demon (which is grosser than I ever pictured it in my head), to Jamie Campbell Bower’s line at the end—it was just perfect and makes me even more excited to see this movie! All I can say is, whomever made the decision to hire the author, Cassandra Clare, as a consultant for the movies, THANK YOU. I’m so grateful that she was part of the process and that this movie was handled with care.
Under the Dome
Can I just say that this show is pretty amazing? P and I just caught up on the first seven episodes this week, and we both really like it. This is actually pretty shocking, since, while this show is right up my alley, it’s completely not P’s thing. This show has a ton of universal appeal and I can see why it’s on one of the big networks.
All-star cast, amazing indie film. Cate Blanchett is just… wow. I’ve never seen her like this before. Her transformation kind of reminds me of Natalie Portman’s in Black Swan. Of course, she’s Cate Blanchett and she doesn’t need doors opened for her, but if she did…
Another excellent indie film. Unfortunately, I was crying through most of it, because as beautiful as parts of it were, other parts were absolutely devastating. Michael B. Jordan was just… I don’t know how to describe it. There was something special about his performance. It’s a special cast and a special movie, and there’s not any other way to explain it.
Gold in the Days of Summer
My friend Susan has a new book out, and it’s absolutely wonderful. I left my longer review on Amazon, so I’ll direct you to that. I believe it’s available in both paperback and ebook on all the major retailers.
Papa Pear Saga
I’m addicted to Candy Crush, so I’ve slowly been trying their other popular games to see what I like. Bubble Witch Saga and Pet Rescue Saga were a bust, but I’m loving Papa Pear Saga and don’t know of any other popular game that’s similar to it (Angry Birds is the closest thing I can think of). Check it out if you’re looking for something new to piss away your time on.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire trailer
I’m a huge Hunger Games fan so I don’t have much to say about why this is on the list. The second movie looks a lot better than the first one was. In fact, it looks a lot better than the second book was. I think this movie benefits from the omniscient POV, which allows us to see the political undertow that drives all the decisions in this story. (Stuff that was difficult to see through Katniss’s eyes, because frankly, she’s just a teenage girl trying to save her own skin.)
Can this girl do no wrong? I loved her in The Descendants, and I’m dying to see The Spectacular Now, Divergent, and The Fault in Our Stars, all three of which she stars in. She definitely feels like the next Anne Hathaway or Amanda Seyfried.
What are you loving this week? Let me know in the comments!
